Legendary Telugu actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao dies at 91


Legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao (20th September, 1923 - 22nd January, 2014) breathed his last in the early hours of Wednesday in Hyderabad. The 90-year-old was diagnosed with Cancer few months ago.

Akkineni had an acting career spanning 75 years. He played the lead roles in nearly 300-odd films. His performances in films like Devadasu, Missamma, Mayabazar, Prem Nagar and Gundamma Katha were appreciated by the Telugus even Today.

In fact, ANR was instrumental in shifting Telugu Film Industry from Madras to Hyderabad. Later, he established Annapurna Studios with the good intention to pay it back to the Industry.

ANR was honoured with Dada Saheb Phalke Award, Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shri by the Government of India for his services to the Film Industry.
